 Application: Dilution of concentrated sulfuric acid in the production of Erythromycin and its by-products.
Where In Process?: A PVC Kates Controller is used to meter the concentrated acid from an outdoor storage tank to the primary dilution tank. Two stainless steel Kates units control the flow of water used in the second dilution step as the solution is fed to two separate processes.
Why Flow Rate is Critical?: The diluted concentrations of the sulfuric acid must be maintained within 3% to be used in the production process.
What Alternatives Were Considered: Control valve and rotameter.
Main Reasons for Choosing Kates: The three Kates Controllers will alleviate the need for a full time operator who previously monitored the dilution.
